Looking for Learners to Participate in Wheelchair Program

Are you interested in learning how to use your wheelchair more effectively? Participate in the TEAM Wheels research study on manual wheelchair use!

TEAM Wheels is a 4-week program to enhance manual wheelchair mobility skills and improve community participation. Participants in the program will have 1-on-1 time with a peer trainer to provide training and expertise in your home or community.

What is involved while participating in this program?

  • Participate in a free, 4 week at-home training program on a provided computer tablet for 1 month.
  • Training program involves 3 online visits with a peer trainer.
  • Program contains 150 video-based training components including instruction, peer demonstration, and practice activities and games.
  • Participants asked to practice at home for 10-20 minutes per day (total of 75-100 minutes per week)
  • Participant will be asked to complete 2-3 online questionnaires before and after the training program.

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Use a manual wheelchair
  • Be able to propel your wheelchair with both arms
  • Be able to understand training material in English
  • Not be receiving wheelchair skills training elsewhere
  • Available to participate for 4 weeks with a time commitment of 10-20 minutes per day (a total of 75-100 minutes per week)
